Pepper Dennis

I've watched the first few episodes of this new show Pepper Dennis. We're not talking best comedy series or anything, but it's completely mindless, which is something I need during finals. Anyhow, the main character, Pepper Dennis, is a news broadcaster who's always made her career first and has been totally unlucky in love. In the last episode, a friend is getting married and her mother is on her back about not having a date to the wedding, not having a boyfriend, not being married yet, etc. This led to two quotes I just loved:

"The institution of marriage turns independent, interesting women into Wedgewood-owning Stepford wives."

"Some of us don’t have time to pump out babies and do yoga, some of us have a career."

Of course I want to get married one day (although whether or not I want kids is still a big question), but right now my career is more important to me...which is easy since I don't have a boyfriend. Getting married and having children are both wonderful events in a woman's life, I'm just not there yet. For now I enjoy being single, and I enjoy comments like the ones above (come on now, we ALL know at least one of THOSE women).

Back to studying...
